Why does the cpio command not work under Red Hat 5.2?

Title   Changes in the cpio command under Red Hat Linux 5.2
Author Mark Esman, StataCorp
Date March 1999

Apparently, under Red Hat 5.2 Linux, one of the options for the cpio command has changed. To correct this you should type:

        cpio -idvmB < /dev/fd0

instead of the command listed in the installation instructions.
