Note: Before trying any of the following suggestions, make sure you have the latest version of Stata by selecting Official Updates from the Help menu.

Try restarting your computer and hold down the left shift key after you hear the initial chime. The most common cause of problems is extension conflicts. Holding down the shift key during startup disables all extensions.

If Stata crashes while coming up, try trashing the Stata 7 Preferences file in the Preferences folder in the System Folder.

My computer crashes during the installation.

Try restarting your computer and hold down the left shift key after you hear the initial chime. This will disable all extensions and control panels. Proceed with the installation and confirm that Stata works properly after the installation is complete. You may then restart your Macintosh. This is the same advice other software packages give for installation.

I'm getting a "Type 1" or "Type 11" er

Both error messages refer to low-memory situations. Try increasing the memory allocated to Stata.
