Notice that _n in -display is not the same as _n in most other
contexts. Within -display- it means "give me a new line" and not
"display current observation number" So to display the current
observation number and solve your double space problem you can use `i'
instead, as in your case it would be equivalent to _n in contexts
outside -display-.
