You are right, I did not make myself clear in my original post.
I am trying to create my mdm files (to be used in HLM) on STATA via the mkmdm command. I have tried to do it on my data files and tried doing it the files available via the UCLA website, but in both instances I keep getting the same error message.
"file HLM2MDM.STS not found"
Also, when running the mkmdm command, Stata creates a new .dta file, as well as a .mdmt and a .mdmvars file but not a .mdm file.
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think there are any models that HLM fits and Stata does not.
The file in question might have been specific to the analysis of your
colleague, or the analysis exemplified at UCLA website. You might want
to be more specific about what you are doing so that the list will
better understand your problem.
