Quite what you mean by the "wrong serial number" is obscure, but I am afraid that the indications are that you have somehow acquired a pirated copy of Stata. 
If you believe this to be impossible, because you know you bought Stata from StataCorp or a Stata distributor, you should contact Stata Tech Support directly with your full licence details to pursue this problem. 
Either way, installation problems are best discussed directly with Stata Tech Support.

I have a problem with the installation of STATA 10. I'm trying 
to install Stata 10 on Vista and, even if the procedure seems to 
work in the sense that Stata runs, it has the wrong serial 
number. This imply, I discovered it today, that actually 
it does not work properly (for example it drops variable at 
random). What I should do in order to run the correct 
installation procedure?
