One option is to insert 
query in your profile.  This may be a bit much and slow down opening of Stata.
I use adoupdate in my profile.  Also, do not turn of update checking.  That way you can get the latest updated version.

It is fairly disastrous to get the executable out of sync with the ado-files. You should either update both or update neither, but under no circumstances create this sort of asynchrony. It has often been reported on Statalist as the source of serious problems with Stata installations.
