As I said in my post assume the father is always the head of 
household for this simple example.  This is a simple example 
as I stated before.  My data has much more information 
(head, spouse, grandparents, brother-in-law, etc.) than my 
simple example.  The point of my post was to deal with the 
missing values when assigning the head of household (father) 
characteristic to each individual regardless of the family 
structure. I am aware of family structures especially in the 
Mexican data that I am using, but for this post in dealing 
with missing values this is beside the point for me.
