Olivier, Friedrich,

Thnak you for your suggestions.

Olivier, I have tried that. It did not work. It still save the file as filename.ado.txt. I have saved it in the right place (I think) c:/ado/under the right alphabet. I have to follow Friedrich suggestion below to save it as ado file.

Friedrich, you are right. I have chosen the option in the explorer as you suggested. I have renamed the extension to ado and now the icon is the same as the other ado. However problem prove harder to overcome. Stata still gave me the unrecognised command error r(199) when it encounters the line of my do-file that excutes the hacked ado file.

Any other idea?

Thanks,
bw

Barley,

You said the icon is different from official ado files. This
indicates that the file was saved as filename.ado.txt, not
filename.ado. In the Windows Explorer, go to Tools - Folder Options -
View and uncheck "Hide extension for known file types." That should
reveal the .txt part and you can then delete it.
