Thanks to both Alfonso Sánchez-Peñalver and to Christopher Baum for their replies re. my query on suregub. I have followed your guidance re. dropping an equation and have rearranged my dataset into a form that can be regressed with the user-written command -xtsur- which I understand can be applied to unbalanced panel datasets.
