Often there is a way around it, but what that way is 
depends on what you want to do. In other cases I would
stick to short names (reducing the odds of a typo), and 
document whatever I wanted to name with comments in my 
.do file, or -labels- or -characteristics-, depending 
on what it is I am trying to document. Given that you
did not tell us what you wanted to do, I cannot be more
specific than this.
