Thanks so much for the reply.

The reason I want to use absorb is to improve the estimation
efficiency.  The dataset I am working on is fairly large and I am
afraid that it is going to exceed the memory limit (I have already set
the memory at the maximum per my machine capacity) if I have to
manually add FE dummies (using xi: for instance).

I am new to STATA -- in a transition from SAS to STATA.  Thanks again
for all the suggestions.
