My tuppence is that I'd be inclined to handle this in something like
Perl (or Python/Ruby/AWK/etc.) but if you're not familiar with one of
these already then it may be inappropriate.

(under *NIX systems and/or Cygwin shells there may be an easy way of
cleaning things up with the html2text command from
http://www.mbayer.de/html2text/index.shtml )
