Thanks to Kit Baum, two new Stata packages called -spgrid- and -spkde- are now available from the SSC Archive. (1) -spgrid- generates two-dimensional grids that can be used by other Stata programs to carry out several kinds of spatial data analysis. (2) -spkde- implements a variety of kernel estimators of both the probability density function and the intensity function of two-dimensional spatial point patterns. Moreover, with a little bit of extra typing, it can also be used to estimate the bivariate probability density function of any pair of quantitative variables (example in the help file). To work properly, -spkde- requires datasets generated by -spgrid-. To visualize kernel estimates, the user-written Stata program -spmap- is required.
Best wishes,
Maurizio
