Hello Statalisters,

the following behavior seems to be a bug, which is present in all
versions of Stata I can find around: 8, 9, and 10 (Windows versions):

1. Open stata without any file
2. Go to the editor: -edit-
3. In the first cell type "" (without space, just quotes). This will
create a variable with "impossible" str0 type (see -help datatypes-
for valid types).
4. Now go to the next cell in that row, type a pair of quotes again.
5. Repeat for the third cell in that row, to create a third variable
of this "strange type"
6. Type some values to these variables (say, into the second row) and
see what happens.

Saving such a file and loading it back will make Stata crazy as well.

Have fun!

Sergiy Radyakin.
