The EconPapers server in Sweden is experiencing some hardware problems this week. The command ssc whatsnew relies on files stored on that server. The same information can be had via the webpage

http://repec.org/docs/ssc.php

However, the links on that page also refer to EconPapers. If you see a module and want to know more about it, use the -ssc describe packagename- command in Stata.

We hope that the EconPapers site will soon be operational, but the European penchant for extended vacations has made a number of I/T staff unavailable.

Kit,

Sorry to trouble you directly on this, but for the last week I've been unable to access the SSC site through Stata 9.2 (updated 06 feb 2007) using -ssc whatsnew-. I've seen no other complaints on Statalist so I assume it's not a general problem.

After trying to access the site through Stata, I receive the usual time-out message after several minutes waiting time:
<br />
<b>Warning</b>: file(http://[email protected]/mirror/boc/ bocode/bocode

x.rdf): failed to open stream: Operation timed out in <b>/Volumes/ loki1/fmww
w/RePEc/docs/smcl.php</b> on line <b>32</b><br />
I've tried many times through three different ISPs (cablered.net.mx; prodigy.net.mx; ixchel.mda.cinvestav.mx) all here in Mexico with the same lack of connection. Is it possible your site is blocking connections from Mexico?

I'm running Stata on a Vista machine (I know, I know...dumb move) and have specifically added full internet access to "wsestata.exe" in my McAfee firewall.

Any ideas?

Best,
Steve Rothenberg
