st: Multidimensional Scaling Question

I get the following error message when trying to implement the 
multidimensional scaling procedure:

_myminmax():  3499  colmin() not found
<istmt>:     -  function returned error

I am simply typing "mds  variablelist, id(id)"

Can someone point out what the problem may be?  Thank you in advance.
