Two intial comments:
1. If you get an error message, don't ask for help without showing the
error message.
2. Indicate the platform (Tim Wade had to guess).
Apart from Tim's suggestion: You write:
... as (pdf) ...
Write instead:
... as(pdf) ...
A space before the parenthesis in an option sometimes gives trouble,
and sometimes also quite strange error messages.
