In Windows you can make this change yourself. In XP at least: From Windows Explorer, choose Tools-Folder Options. Then on the "File Types" tab, browse down to SMCL, hit "Advanced", then "Change Icon", then select the icon you want. (You can select from the default shell32.dll, which is the Windows default icons, or navigate to WEStata.exe and select one of the Stata-provided icons.

Procedure is similar in other windows versions.
