I have a request for Stata Corp. if they are listening today. Using the graph -by_option-, it appears that one can specify either the number of rows, or the number of columns, but not both. It would be very useful if it was possible to specify both the r(#) and the c(#) concurrently. In cases where the number of by groups is substantial, inability to specify both concurrently results in a combined graph with too many plots on it which renders the individual plots too small to be useful.

There are work-arounds, but it would greatly facilitate inspecting multiple -by_group- plots to be able to simply specify the r x c size of the graph, and have the graph produce multiple graphs until it had plotted all the bygroups. Such a utility would be most useful when working with panel data, for instance, when there are a reasonably large number of panels.
