I did some cluster analyses in STATA lately and I also missed the Ward
algorithm. As far as I know, it's not implemented in STATA, however it
is in SPSS.

Is Ward's method of cluster analysis implemented in Stata7? I didn't
see it
explicitly mentioned in the manual, but perhaps it has been given a
different name there.
