Others have made various suggestions. I want to comment on the remark
about -insheet-. -insheet- is very definitely for plain text or ASCII
files. It makes no pretence or promise of being to cope with any binary
format, which is what I understand .xlsx to be.

There are various easy tests to see if some file is binary. -type- it or
open it in a text editor. If it looks almost completely unintelligible,
it's in binary.

Has anyone ever tried importing files from .xlsx files. I tried using
insheet but unfortunately it does not recognize the file extension.
