I second Phil's request.

Just to be clear, I don't believe I was making a request. The one request I did make (i.e., that Stata not ignore Apple Events while it was processing the last one and that a preference be added to disable notification) was, as I said, addressed in the 25feb2008 update. I'm now (with Stata and TextMate) happy as a clam.

I've in the past proposed a solution among the lines of the Stata plugin: a simple API that allows specially modified external editors to pass lines of code to Stata for execution and returns the _rc code (and perhaps the error message) to the caller.

Lines of code can currently be passed to Stata (via Apple Events), though there is no way to get the return code back. This would be helpful for someone wanting to call Stata silently (i.e., unattended) from another process, but I don't personally see what value it would add for editing do/ado files.
