Can you show the exact syntax? Or better yet provide a replicable example?

just to make sure Stata is up to date and installed correctly. Weird error messages sometimes reflect an installation problem. I'm getting bizarre error messages on a classroom machine where I know Stata is not installed correctly (and unfortunately I don't have the read/write privileges needed to correct it).
