I wanted to add to my question below: both my PC and OS are 64-bit, but I couldn't figure out if the Stata I'm using is 32-bit or 64-bit. Thanks.

Subject: memory issue with Stata

I have Stata 9.2 IC (2 processor), and I am working on a machine with 32 GB RAM. When I try to do the following:

. set mem 8g

Or

. set mem 8000m

I get an error "value too large". I'm trying to read a txt file that has a size of 4 GB into Stata.

How can I make Stata 9.2 IC increase the memory allocated?

Thanks
