Check your videocard. It may sound odd, but I had the same problem when
running Stata in a 64 bit- windows-based (XP) environment.
If it is not the main cause, I suggest you to give us an example.

Hi everyone. I'm running STATA 12 with a 64-bit OS and Windows 7 and 8GB RAM
but it's like STATA is crawling every time I type a command. Any suggestions
would be GREATLY welcome.
