The workshop starts with demonstrating ways of importing various data formats into Stata. Subsequently we will discuss data cleaning and various special problems of data management, including data management in datasets with hierarchical structures. Each topic is illustrated with practical examples and applied in assisted exercises using participant data or from real-life settings. Outline ------- Session I: Importing data - Raw data (fixed format, character-separated values) - Excel - Other statistical packages Session II: Combining data sets - Appending observations - Merging variables Session III: Data storage types and missing values Session IV: Data cleaning and labeling Session V: Creating and transforming variables Session VI: Stata resources Session VII: Special problems - Analyzing data across subgroups - Reshaping data Session VIII: Applied examples - Model estimation and exporting results - Automated reporting of evaluation/survey data Instructional methods --------------------- This workshop will combine slides, practical examples, and assisted exercises using Stata For a limited number of 20 participants, access to Computers with Stata 12 will be provided by the DIW and DPC.
