Jose,
There are several differences between the 32 bit and the 64 bit machines.
32 bit operating systems can handle no more than 4gb of RAM and a large chunk of that
is used by the operating system. 64 bit machines can accommodate up to 194 gb
of RAM. Some of the software for the 64 bit machines may want to store info
in the upper ram if the lower is pre-empted by other things.
You need to be sure that all of the software you wish to run on the 64 bit
machine has display and printer drivers that will work with 64 bit operating systems.
In the 64 bit machines with plenty of ram you can open hundreds of windows simultaneously
without the machine freezing. Also, the video resolution is generally finer. If you have very large datasets, you may need the larger RAM to accommodate all of the labels for all of the variables.
You will also discover that companies have one version of software that run on the 32 bit machines and a slightly different version may run on the 64 bit machines. The options in the software are not always the same, though they generally are.
64 bit operating systems are often used as servers and it is not uncommon to have several accounts on such systems, although that is not necessary.
    - Robert
