I am surprised that no-one on the list seems to be aware of an algorithm or software solution for this problem.

It seems to be a basic one compared to some of the more erudite discussions on the list - or am I displaying my admitted ignorance????

If Stata is not a suitable tool, I would much appreciate someone sticking his neck out far enough to say so.

Many thanks...

Jeff
