I just hope I also helped Federico along the way, with a partial solution to
an issue that had attracted very little attention up to that point -
although it is unusual and in my view does deserve a closer look by tech
support. You chose to limit your citation of my email to the complaint part
- and that is your prerogative. But anybody can check its full contents at

Postings you seem to get twice or more
=======================================

The archives remain the best approximation to what was sent by the
server.

Please compare what you get _privately_ with the archives, and draw your
own conclusions. For example, the email Martin refers to _was_ sent
twice by the server. Anyone can check these things without troubling the
list.

Otherwise, these malfunctions just lead to rather unproductive exchanges
on the list of the form "Did you get this twice?" "Yes, I got it twice
too" and so on and so forth.

Postings you sent that do not appear
====================================

Recently there have been several reports of postings sent that did not
appear on the list.

Not all can be explained by the usual explanations (HTML and/or
attachments being trapped; people sending from addresses not subscribed
to the list).

This has bit me too recently and I am as irritated and puzzled by it as
anyone.

Two things seem about as sure as anything:

* A complaint of the minimal form "I sent a post, and it didn't appear"
doesn't contain any information that even email gurus could work on.

* Only the technical people behind Marcello Pagano can comment
authoritatively on any problems at the Harvard end.

BTW, the server seems to be sending out messages for a second time
randomly.
Am I the only one getting those?

Federico Belotti

I've a problem with the function -regexm-. I get the following message:
