James Muller <[email protected]> reported that the
August 11, 2008 update of the -reshape- command no longer allows
variable names longer than 20 characters when reshaping from wide
to long.
The fix for this bug is now available. Type -update ado- in your
Stata Command window to get the fix.

in the next ado-file update -- tomorrow or by Wednesday at the
latest.
It looks like it took Statacorp 2 hours and 46 minutes to acknowledge
the problem and report a fix. Not bad, but I am sure you can do
better. :)
