Concerning Stata history, Sergiy Radyakin <[email protected]> asks,

Neither. -db-, maybe, in that parts of -db- resumble -menu- in intent,
but -db- shares no code or even underyling ideas with -menu-, except
one: Filling in a form resulted in the creation of a Stata command,
which command was shown and executed.

-menu- was an early GUI system for Stata, its design based on IBM 3270
display technology, which is to say, fill-in-the-blank, static forms.
