Hallo -

when exporting your graphics as .eps from stata and then using a converter when using this file in (pdf)latex can be also be done with the tool

epspdf, see http://tex.aanhet.net/epspdf/

The advantage of this eps->pdf conversion route is that it is highly configurable and ususually produces better output. (Bounding Box, grayscale conversion etc.)

There is also a LaTeX-Package that helps to use epspdf (instead of epstopdf), see http://tug.ctan.org/pkg/epspdfconversion
