Sergiy, your solution also works. Thank you. I have now two options to
create the "scatter" macro in the -foreach- loop.

(1) local scatter `scatter' (scatter mpg weight if rep78=="`r'", msize(large))
(2) local scatter `"`scatter' (scatter mpg weight if rep78==`"`r'"',
msize(large))"'
