st: dates

Dear List,

I have a variable "exitdate" that is the last clinic visit for each 
subject; it is formatted as %dD_m_Y_. I need to change all last visit 
dates recorded in 2006 to Dec 31, 2005. Any help would be greatly 
appreciated. Also if someone could point me towards a user friendly 
reference for survival analysis that would also be greatly appreciated.
