This sounds like a partial -update-, i.e. your
executable and your other files are not synchronous.
Issue -update query- to check.

The sample dataset gives the same error message. In fact, having updated 
the metan command, this now also gives an error message on the graph 
option, telling me that xaxis1 does not exist.

I wonder whether my copy of Stata has been corrupted, or at least the
portion which defines the xaxis options.
