st: outfix, line width problem

I'm using -outfix- in STATA 9.1 to create a fixed-format ASCII text file. 
The file is quite wide - up to 280 columns.  In order to make "set log 
linesize 300" work in version 9.1, I added -version 6: set log linesize 300- 
in my do file. But the output text is still wrapped up with the annoying ">" 
characters.

Any suggestions please?
