open the data in SPSS and then save it as a tab-delimited ASCII file.

Then open Stata and read in this file with the command:
insheet using "filename", tab

i am a newcomer to stata and will like your help. how do i convert some
large survey data sets from spss to stata. i tried help and the manual but
it seems there is a specific  software/programme used. your asistance is
highly appreciated. thanks in advance
