Andrew,

It sounds like it might be operating-system related, or maybe your hard 
disk is flakey.  Are you using an older version of Windows?

Reminds me of one of those Windows error messages redone in haiku format 
(5-7-5 syllables):

Yesterday it worked.
Today it is not working.
Windows is like that.
