Andre

I have had this problem on occasions as well (Windows/Stata version 8) and my suspicion is that the University of Adelaide's web server has a cache that doesn't always help matters when you try for the auto update. I have also then gone around in ever-decreasing circles trying to get the manual download and local update to be reflected in the information returned by -update query-. If no other solutions are proffered then what worked for me was to delete the entire official ado\update folder and then either auto or manually updating the ado files. Sounds drastic but the update folder is really a rather (temporarily) dispensable part of Stata. (You could of course, always rename or otherwise hide the existing ado\update folder while you build a new one.)

I've recently applied the update to a Macintosh version of Stata 7 so

Unfortunately I cannot get the ado files to update; a message is
received that the URL "could not be
opened for read by copytextfile".

I've noticed within the archive that this problem had previously arisen,
but no solution had been suggested.

Any way to apply the update manually i.e. i've downloaded the ado
archive file, unpacked it but update via the browse function still
doesn't update the ado files.

Thanks,

Andre Duszynski.
