A colleague of mine had the same problem. It turned out that there are two
versions of -gam- available: one from STB, and one from SSC (which is more
recent). We have deleted the already installed gam-files, and installed
the SSC version. After that, everything worked fine. You can get the SSC
version by typing:

-ssc desc gam-

and then

-ssc get gam-

It is often the case that the SSC version of an item is later, and contains fixes, that the STB or SJ version does not. Every SSC item contains a Distribution-Date which is its date of last modification on the archive.

Please do NOT download materials via a web browser from the URL given--ESPECIALLY if you are using Windows. There is very little chance that the .hlp file will survive on that OS, and a good chance that the .ado files will not be properly transferred. Please use the SSC command (e.g. ssc install gam, replace) to handle this task reliably.
