This refers to -prcomp- and -prcompw- by John R. Gleason
published in STB-47. 

-prcomp- and -prcompw- tacitly assume that your categorical 
variable is coded by integers. I guess that -gadcfa- is 
not so coded. 

Try this 

egen gadcfa2 = group(gadcfa), label 
prcomp gadnew gadcfa2
