If I may, a comment upon Chris Meti's observation re the firewall blocking
all net commands from inside Stata,

I am encouraged (!!!), in a negative way, to hear that other users have
firewall blocking problems.

Is this a common problem out there in Stata user-land? It certainly
decreases the functionality and increases the work X fold to download ado
updates manually.

I have had this problem now for some time (and I might note, had very good
feed back from Stata Corp in an attempt to solve this at my end, alas to no
avail) and it appears (on advice from our IT) to be non-soluble in the
short-long term.

There are a few sites that I used to access regularly from within Stata (eg
UCLA and some individual users); these are now not accessible. Is it
possible for Stata Corp to in some way identify these and make them
available for manual download in the same manner that they have done for the
"merror" package?

Thanks for any comments on this VERY frustrating problem.

Thanks for your response - it will be a great feature and I look forward to
the new documentation. I'd like to download the merror package, but
unfortunately my firewall blocks all of my net commands from inside Stata.
Does anyone know how I can obtain this package manually?

Thanks,
Chris

Chris Metli <[email protected]> asks about calling into DLLs from
Stata,

The brochure is just the slightest bit ahead of development and
documentation.

As Kit Baum <[email protected]> noted, DLLs can be called from Stata and in fact a
suite of commands to fit models to data with measurement error has been
implemented using DLLs, see http://www.stata.com/merror. These commands
were presented in a full-day seminar at the Stata User Group Meeting in
Boston, on March 19th.

As we documented DLLs, it became clear that we wanted to make some final
changes to make using DLLs easier. These changes were discussed at the
London Stata User Group meeting on May 19th. The changes are almost
complete and we expect to have a web page documenting how to use DLLs with
Stata up by the first week in July.
