hmmm, i have put a requisition order for stata 8 yesterday and promptly put it on hold today because of this email. unfortunately our organization is still using win98 and office 97, as will be too the machine on which stata 8 will be installed. if this copy and paste to word 97 do not work, then stata 8 won't be of use to me.

you ([email protected]) mentioned that it (cut and pasting into word 97)works from w98se onwards. i have just checked on the window properties, it merely said that it is window 98 there is no se or second edition note next to it. how can i ascertain whether my window is w98se or w98? thank you.

kind regards,
bw

ps: don't tell me to ask my it dept., next to useless.

We recently changed Stata 8 to copy files to the clipboard in EMF format rather than WMF format which we had used in the past. We switched to EMF because the WMF format appears to have problems with filled polygons which is what we use to graph confidence intervals (among other things).

Unfortunately, it appears that the EMF format was not introduced to Windows until Windows 98 SE so it doesn't work in Windows 98 and earlier. We'll make the clipboard format settable between WMF and EMF but I suggest you export your graph to a file in WMF format until we put out an update. This however does not fix the problem with filled polygons but we're still investigating this limitation with the WMF format.
