Just as a sidelight, perhaps the biggest reason for including the 
version number is so that your program will continue to work 
correctly under Stata 10, 11 and 12.  There might be changes in those 
later versions that would otherwise zap your program, but with 
version control your program will hopefully keep running just the 
same as it does now.
