As you are making plans for the fall semester, let me encourage you to
come to the 6th Winemiller symposium on Applied Statistics at
University of Missouri, Columbia. This year the conference features
developments in social science statistical methodology. We shall have
12 invited speakers, all being prominent leaders in their respective
fields. Stata will be represented with a pre-conference continuing
education workshop on -xtmixed- models by Roberto Gutierrez. Some of
the invited speakers have made their histories in Stata: Prof. Sophia
Rabe-Hesketh is the developer of -gllamm-, one of the most complex
estimators in Stata, certainly in the class of user-contributed
programs (and she is giving an invited talk on generalized multilevel
and latent variable models); Prof. Joseph Hilbe was one of the
original developers of the -glm- package (he is giving a talk on
statistical software); and Prof. John Eltinge contributed to the
original suite of -svy- commands with linearization variance estimator
(and his talk will be on some open problems in survey statistics). The
conference website is http://www.socialsciencestatistics.com, the
early bird registration closes in September.
