It appears that you are misunderstanding the label option in recode.  It
is 
meant for naming a label that recode creates when you add text to the 
transformations like (1=4 good) (2=3 very good).  It does not appear to
be 
meant to accept an existing label and apply it.  So, you will need to
use a 
loop to apply the labels to the new variables or else specify the labels

explicity in the recode command.
