The only work-around I can think of is to 
create a string copy of a variable and 
use "missing" as the string equivalent of 
numeric missing. But you couldn't do much 
useful with this: for example, tabulations
would sort "12" ahead of "3". -list-ing 
might work the way you want it, however.
