I have a large ASCII file that I wish to read into STATA. I normally read this file using fortran.

Instead of creating a data dictionary such as

var1 1-3
var2 4-6
var3 7-9
etc..

is there a way to tell stata that I have 9 variables all which take up 3 columns. (In fortran, I would type 9f3.0).

Thanks,

Bob
