I mean that the programm doesn't respond. At times it is just a bit
slow, but other times  it doesn't allow one to click any of the Stata
commands, so that the only thing to do is to close Stata and restart
again.

This is very difficult for anyone to comment on without 
any detail. For example, when you say that
Stata collapses, what do you mean, precisely?
