As a postscript omitted from the first post:  at least for Microsoft Access
2000, it looks like Stat/Transfer serves nicely to get all of the date/time
information into Stata, both directly by -stcmd- and via a temporary ASCII
intermediate file.  And there is the potential to use Stat/Transfer more
generally via its own ODBC Data Source file type, called from within Stata
or via a command-line file, if password security logistics can be worked
out.

If there is a general solution to date/time datatypes via -odbc-, I would
still be interested to learn of it.
